Our Nutrition Counselling Techniques

Our strategies for nutrition counselling and education include:

  • Clarification: We ask for clarification on information provided by the client. This ensures accuracy and prevents assumptions and misunderstandings.
  • Encouraging: We build client confidence and fosters mutual respect. It helps our client to see their strengths, which is a helpful motivation in behaviour change.
  • Listening Skills: We show attentiveness matched by the appropriate body language while the client is speaking.
  • Paraphrasing: We repeat what the client has said to confirm to the client that we are being attentive. It is also a good way we clarify information.
  • Working Alliance: We create a working partnership with the client. We allow the client to be actively involved in decision making which is a form of encouragement that they are capable of providing solutions to their own problems.
  • Self-Disclosure: As counsellors, we share our personal experiences or thoughts on the issue. This helps improve the clients’ emotional state and can also be a source of motivation

This will enhance the evaluation of patients’ response to nutritional care plan, explore dietary modifications and support the client with acceptance of nutrition care plan.
